Recording short GIF tutorials of browser workflows

What is a practical way to turn a browser workflow into a short GIF tutorial? I would like the clip to show the starting screen, one action and the result, without exposing account details. For this kind of walkthrough, would you record the whole session and trim it here, or capture each step separately? A short clip can show the clicks, but it cannot explain every permission prompt.
